Garbage and Recycling is picked up Thursday Mornings, operated by Black Hawk Waste Disposal.
​
Residents can choose between and 64 gallon or 96 gallon totes when setting up their accounts. Each home has a 64 gallon grey recycling tote.
​
Since our customer refuse fees are partially based on the tonnage delivered to the landfill, it is in our best interest to promote recycling in our city. Recycling will help our environment and reduce landfill costs! Your participation in the city's recycling program is greatly appreciated!

Scrap Metal Drive
The Janesville Lion's Club hosts a scrap metal drive during the spring City Wide Garage Sales.
Appliance Disposal

Automobile Batteries, Tires, Rims, and Appliances may be picked up by City Personnel on Tuesday of each week, unless otherwise announced. Items must be paid for, in advance.

Yard Waste
​
Yard Waste is collected free of charge each morning from May-September and must be placed in bio degradable bags or tied in bundles weighing no more than 30lbs and placed near the curb.
​
Residents can also haul their own to the city's yard waste site, call Public Works prior to as the site may not be accessible.

Governement
The City of Janesville is governed by a Mayor and Council of five members. The council chambers are located inside City Hall at 227 Main Street.
COUNCIL MEETINGS
City Council meetings are held the second Monday of each month at 6:00PM. The public is welcome and invited to attend.

Parks & Recreation
The City of Janesville has four different parks located throughout town. You will find there is something here for everyone from wide open spacious pet friendly play areas, to a softball diamond, playground equipment and more! A boat ramp is located at the Barrick Rd. City Park with access to the Cedar River, great for boating, kayaking, tubing, or fishing. If camping is more your style check out the nearby campsites in rural Waverly and Cedar Falls.
